The main narrative reflects the deep cracks currently dividing the team in the main series: Hawkeye and Mockingbird’s marriage has collapsed after Mockingbird allowed the villain Phantom Rider to fall to his death, causing her, Moon Knight, and Tigra to break away from the main roster.

The crisis begins when Bill Foster (Giant-Man), currently working undercover at the High Evolutionary's base, manages to slip a warning note onto a soldier's uniform. That soldier is sent to Wakanda to steal Vibranium for the Evolutionary’s massive "Genetic Bomb."
