Published in July 1992, Doom Patrol #57 is the harrowing opening chapter of the series' most famous and terrifying storyline: "The Tehom." Titled "The Nature of the Catastrophe," this issue marks the beginning of the end for Grant Morrison’s run, introducing a cosmic horror so vast it threatens to unmake the team before they even realize they are under attack.

After the surrealist whimsy of the Brotherhood of Dada, Morrison pivots the tone sharply into apocalyptic dread. The "Catastrophe" of the title is both literal and metaphorical.
